My Story.
"Good theatre got soul!"
-Dr. Cristal Chanelle Truscott
Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, I discovered an early love for storytelling through singing, dancing, and writing—ultimately finding my greatest passion in theatre. I earned my degree in Theatre Performance and Theatre for Youth & Communities from the University of Northern Iowa, where I forged new paths and learned to use my voice in advocacy. These experiences deepened my belief in theatre’s power to build empathy and drive social change.
After graduating, I continued expanding my artistic and educational practice through professional opportunities that allowed me to grow as a teaching artist, performer, director, and arts leader. My work centers on creating inclusive, transformative spaces where young people and underrepresented voices can thrive.
As a Queer Black woman, I am deeply committed to amplifying stories that challenge, inspire, and uplift. Looking ahead, I aim to continue bridging performance and leadership— cultivating theatre as a space for empowerment, equity, and joy.
